Less stock means less space needed
Marks & Spencer is to close an Exel-run distribution centre in Kent. The move puts 400 Exel jobs at risk.

The centre on the Colebrook Industrial Estate in Tunbridge Wells will close because the retailer no longer needs the facility. The retailer has 10 other distribution centres in the country.

The centre is likely to be shut by September and the retailer hopes to be able to offer some staff alternative jobs.

M&S has been undergoing a strategy of cutting the amount of stock it holds, which has meant that it now needs less distribution space.

The region currently served by the centre will be supported by sites in Enfield, Neasden and Swindon when it is closed.

Exel is undergoing a 90-day consultation with staff and Unions.
