Initial 51 per cent stake snapped up
Fashion brand owner Marchpole has acquired UK-based luxury clothing company Homebody.

Homebody, founded in 1997, manufactures and distributes womenswear, menswear and maternitywear designed by Beverly Calvert and Susannah Draper.

The brand is stocked at Selfridges, Harrods and boutiques across the UK. It also has a presence in the US and online.

Marchpole has taken an initial 51 per cent stake in the company, with the remaining 49 per cent to be acquired after three years.

Calvert and Draper will remain at the business in a creative capacity.

Marchpole executive deputy chairman Michael Morris said: 'The acquisition is another significant step towards the evolution of the company into an international brand management group. We believe there is significant growth potential for the Homebody business.'

Marchpole, which produces brands such as Yves Saint Laurent and Emanuel Ungaro, posted flat profits in its preliminary results in June this year. Pre-tax profit for the year to March 31 was£4.9 million.

The group said over the coming year it would be focusing on acquisitions, finding new licensing agreements and extending existing ones.
