Discounted products will also be available online from Christmas day.
Marks & Spencer chief executive Stuart Rose said: 'We're starting our Sale in stores on December 27, because we'll be closed on Boxing Day. Our staff have worked very hard this year, so we'll be giving them a well-earned break over Christmas.'
Earlier in the week, Retail Week revealed the retailer had to withdraw thousands of handbags from sale, after a dispute with designer brand Jimmy Choo (RW Online, December 19).
The upmarket label claimed the retailer's bag design was too similar to its own. However, Marks & Spencer had already sold a large number of the handbags.
In a statement, M&S said: 'Jimmy Choo and Marks & Spencer have reached a confidential financial settlement, to the satisfaction of both parties. The handbag has been removed from sale by Marks & Spencer, with no admission of liability.'
