A man has been shot during a foiled robbery at a Sainsbury’s store in London.

Police were staking out the Enfield branch of the supermarket, acting on a tip-off that it would be raided.

Shoppers were still inside the store when shots were fired after three men targeted a security van at the supermarket. One of the van’s guards was shot as the police closed in to stop the robbery. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The New Village centre, where the supermarket is located, was sealed off following the incident and staff were sent home.

Three men were arrested at the scene.
