Pre-Christmas Sales still very much in evidence, but reaping increases in shopper traffic
With day-to-day trading of constant interest to retailers, retail-week.com is interviewing a number of the Mall center managers during the last week of this year's Christmas shopping period.

The second report in this series comes from the Mall Barnsley general manager Ian Fisher.

He said: 'Christmas trading really took off on Saturday with footfall at The Mall Barnsley up 5.3% on the same day last year. Sales were also ahead of 2003 on both Saturday and Sunday and the momentum continued into Monday with families out bright and early shopping for lingerie/nightwear, partywear, shawls, 'fake fur' and CD's. Highlights include Band Aid CD 'Do they know its Christmas' available at MVC, Bodycare Pink Collection from Next and DVD Player at£29.99 offered by Woolworths.

Many retailers are 'jumping the gun' by bringing their sales forward, a number including Bay Trading, Rosebys and The Officers Club went into sale as early as last week and Streetwise and All:Sports started Monday December 20 with others to follow ahead of the traditional down-pricing on Christmas Eve.'
