UK drinkers spending more on a tipple
Majestic Wine has increased pre-tax profits, excluding exceptional items, by 26.6 per cent to£5 million in the six months ended September 27.

Total sales were up£74.6 million from£69.1 million in the same period last year.

Like-for-like sales were up 7.4 per cent. The retailer said it had managed to raise the average bottle price, and spend per transaction was increased from£104 to£110.

Majestic chief executive Tim How said: 'Sales growth continues to be most encouraging, with UK like-for-like sales in the six weeks from September 28 to November 8 up 10.4 per cent. We are very pleased by Majestic's continued progress and see considerable opportunities for further growth.'
