Majestic Wine has extended its use of Itim’s EPoS system to its French stores.

After its latest deployment at its Cherbourg store, the Chameleon EPoS system is running in all three of its continental stores.

Operating under the Wine and Beer World fascia, the French stores largely serve consumers from the UK who come to France to purchase alcohol at lower tax rates.

As such, the Chameleon system is particularly suitable for the retailer’s needs because it has a foreign currency processing feature, which allows the application to calculate exchange rates.

Wine and Beer World lets customers pay for their purchases in either euro or sterling and the system has been configured to allow staff to provide customers with change in their preferred currency.

The EPoS application is also tax and language independent, so it has been easy to configure it for the French market.

Majestic has adopted a similar look and feel in its French stores as in its UK business, despite the different name and branding, so the company felt it made sense to adopt the same systems in France. It first bought Chameleon for its UK business in 2004 and has since rolled out an innovative Chip and PIN system that integrates with the application.

Majestic Wine IT director Jim Bendon said that extending the system to its French stores was an easy decision and Itim had worked hard to make the deployment a success.

He added that the response from users has been extremely positive. “The staff are all delighted with the new system. It’s a massive improvement on our previous EPoS,” he said.
