Mackays hunts product director ahead of nationwide store push

Fashion retailer Mackays in on the look out for a new product director as it gears up for expansion.

Sue Swannie, who has been product director at Mackays for six years, has resigned and will leave in February.

It is believed she has been poached by a rival fashion retailer.

Chief executive Paul Vann said he was sad to see her leave, but that Mackays had built a solid buying and merchandising team.

'Over the past five years, we have taken the business forward. Womenswear has done really well. The range is better, and is more focused towards the stylish, 35-year-old woman,' he said.

Product improvements and revamped store designs have driven the bottom line, said Vann.

Without revealing figures, he said pre-tax profits in the first six months of the year were up, and the business is on target to beat last year's performance.

The privately owned clothing retailer plans to add another 50 stores in the next year, across both the Mackays and M&Co fascias.
