The world of dodgy car salesmen desperately trying to flog motors on the forecourt certainly seem to be a thing of the past as consumers put their trust in their smartphones instead.

According to online auction site eBay, vehicle purchases made through eBay using a smartphone rocketed more than 120% between 2010 and 2011 and are likely to increase again this year.

And before you begin to think it’s just unwanted old Skodas and three-wheeled vans, eBay recorded more than 6,300 Mercedes- Benz, 5,500 Audis and 2,300 Jaguars sold between January and March this year.

Consumers only need to worry about how trustworthy their smartphones are if they start smoking cigars and greasing their hair back.
