Steve Robinson, chief executive of online fashion retailer M and M Direct, has stepped down from his role for personal reasons, Retail Week has learnt.

Robinson decided to step down after meeting his fiancée and deciding the distance from M and M Direct’s head office in Leominster in Herefordshire to where she lived in Woking, Surrey, was too far. He is getting married next week and the couple are expecting a child.

Robinson told Retail Week he has set up a consultancy and is considering other options.

The ecommerce consultancy will focus on “the next stage of e-tailing beyond multi-channel, omni-channel retailing” and Robinson said he is in discussions over various “executive and non-executive” positions with private equity firms.

It is understood that the etailer has not yet found a replacement for Robinson, who was chief of the company for the last four years.

Robinson joined M and M Direct from Tesco where he was chief executive of Tesco Direct. Before then he had been finance director of Argos.
