He replaces David Rae
James Lowman has been promoted to chief executive of the Association of Convenience Stores from his position as director of public affairs.

He replaces retiring chief executive David Rae and will take up his post from November 1. He joined the ACS in March 1997 and was appointed public affairs manager in 2000.

The ACS has also appointed Mike Greene - the chief executive of retail consultant him! - as chairman. He will also act as an adviser to Lowman for the next 12 months. Greene's appointment marks the second time he has chaired the trade body after his stint in 2003.

Lowman, 31, said: 'My overriding intention is to tackle the difficult issues that the sector faces head on and make ACS even more visible as the champion of the convenience retailer.'
