Since opening just over two weeks ago, Grosvenor’s Liverpool One shopping centre has chalked up over a million visits, according to the developer.

The first phase of the scheme opened on May 29, adding an extra 1 million sq ft of retail space to Liverpool city centre. Retailers including Debenhams, John Lewis, Monsoon, Pull and Bear and All Saints were among those to open stores there.

Debenhams chief executive Rob Templeman said: “We are delighted with the performance of Debenhams Liverpool during its first two weeks of trading. The store is trading well above our expectations and some departments are already number one in the company.”

Grosvenor said that Liverpool One is also benefiting the surrounding retail area, with one of the city’s key shopping hot spots, around Church Street and Whitechapel, reportedly experiencing a growth of 421 per cent week on week since May 29.
