Multichannel retailer Littlewoods is poised to axe 280 jobs nationwide in a bid to streamline its operations.

Up to 150 of the jobs losses will be from the retailer’s financial solutions arm in Sunderland, 100 from its Speke head office in Liverpool and 30 from contact centres in Preston, Crosby and Burnley.

A Littlewoods spokesman said: “We are not in a consultation period yet, but are talking to the management and the unions. We are now two years into our five-year turnaround plan, which involves streamlining the business to make it sustainable and profitable.”

Last month, the retailer announced that 200 staff would be made redundant from its head office as it downscaled its catalogue operation in favour of online.
