Having gained a significant market share in the UK, Lidl’s strategy recognises the importance of this market, with the retailer committed to opening between 50 and 60 stores each year as part of a wider ambition to operate 1,500 UK stores in an unspecified timeframe. Although it had been aiming to operate more than 1,000 stores in the UK by 2023, the number had reached around 960 as of early 2024 with the retailer now targeting 1,100 stores by 2025.
