Crespo to take Liberty of London global
Iconic London department store Liberty has wooed James Crespo from Burberry to oversee the international expansion of the company's luxury brand Liberty of London.

Crespo will be commercial director of the Liberty of London brand, which was introduced in autumn last year and is due to be launched through a joint venture in Japan in spring 2008.

Last month, Liberty said that in the six months to June 30, its sales had decreased slightly from£20.1 million to£19.9 million and its pre-tax loss narrowed from£2.8 million to£1.6 million.

In a trading update in March, Liberty chairman Richard Balfour-Lynn said that the launch of the Liberty of London brand had been a 'success' and had boosted sales last Christmas.

Speaking today, Liberty chief executive Iain Renwick said: 'I think the time is right to expand the Liberty of London brand in the global arena.'

A spokeswoman stated that, at present, Japan was the only country where Liberty had 'firm plans' to expand.

Crespo was previously worldwide commercial director of the Burberry Prorsum collection and commercial director of Emporio Armani prior to that.
