Online homeware retailer Wayfair and electricals retailer Appliances Direct have been fined a combined £6m by the Competition and Markets Authority for misleading sales tactics, including time-limited offers that did not end when they said they would.
Wayfair was fined £4.8m, while Appliances Direct was fined £1.2m and ordered to refund around £432,000 to customers it had automatically opted into paid-for extras. Both fines were cut by 40% after the retailers admitted breaking the law and agreed to settle early.
