Landlord asks retailer to ditch saucy window display

Lakeside landlord Capital Shopping Centres has asked menswear retailer Blue Inc to remove a saucy window campaign featuring the slogan: 'What a lovely cock'.

It is the retailer's second campaign to be banned by the shopping centre. In April, it was instructed to remove a picture display of an open-mouthed woman with the slogan: 'Boys cum and get it' after just three days.

Blue Inc financial director Jonathan Levy admitted the aim was to test whether its new creative agency Folk had the ability to shock. However, he insisted that the present campaign - featuring farmyard cockerels - is more 'postcard humour' and pointed out Lakeside also has an Ann Summers store with racy window displays, as well as newsagents selling magazines such as Playboy.

'We want to be known for being innovative - I don't mean shocking all the time. The next window won't be shocking, it'll be humour,' said Levy. 'We want people to say to their mates over a drink: 'have you seen that Blue Inc window?''
