International division also strong
Karen Millen, Warehouse and the international division were star performers at Mosaic last year.

Group sales rose 5 per cent to£853.3 million for the year to January 27, helped by an 18 per cent sales rise at Karen Millen. Warehouse posted a stellar performance, with sales growth of 8 per cent.

Group international sales were up 28 per cent for the period and now represent 15 per cent of turnover, compared with 12 per cent last year. The group opened 71 international outlets last year. Karen Millen is expected to be rolled out in the US and Russia next year.

Growth at Coast hit 24 per cent for the year, although this slowed as rivals launched occasionwear ranges.

Group operating profit fell 19 per cent to£66 million, mainly because of a poor performance at Oasis, where sales slid 3 per cent. Shoe Studio sales dipped 8 per cent.

Current trading is mixed and the performance of Debenhams, one of Mosaic's main concession hosts, is thought to have had a detrimental effect on the group. About 20 per cent of Mosaic's sales come from Debenhams.
