John Lewis has reported another week of solid trading, with sales up 3.5 per cent.

For the week ending January 10, the retailer said sales were up every day apart from Sunday, despite the bad weather.

John Lewis said seven branches were up on last year, with the best regional figures coming from London and the North. Aberdeen led, with a 17 per cent sales increase, while others to perform well included Newcastle, Glasgow, Bluewater and Cambridge.

Electricals and home technology performed well, alongside women’s shoes and menswear.

Grocer Waitrose reported sales up 2.8 per cent for the week. It said the snowy weather drove sales of winter comfort foods, such as meat joints and sausages.

Overall, the John Lewis Partnership reported sales up 3.1 per cent for the week.
