John Lewis has continued to gain sales momentum after notching up a record week for its technology products.

In the week to Saturday December 13, sales at the department store group were down only 4 per cent on the year, a 6 per cent week-on-week increase.

Sales in its electricals and home technology division were up 2 per cent on the retailer’s previous biggest week.

Best-sellers include e-frames, digital cameras, sat-navs, DVD players and e-books.

Sales at the department store group over the past seven days have exceeded those of its 2006 peak week. Its multichannel arm Johnlewis.com reported a record day for online shoppers last Monday.

John Lewis director of selling operations Dan Knowles said: “With just one more weekend to go now before Christmas, we have seen some very strong trading, particularly in electricals and home technology products, and we expect this trend to continue over the next 10 days.

“We are confident that John Lewis has maintained its position as a market leader over the festive period, with an innovative and inspiring product assortment and our price promise which customers know they can trust."
