Easter items sold well at Waitrose
The John Lewis Partnership reported significant Easter week sales increases in its weekly figures, which were published today.

Like-for-like sales at Waitrose supermarkets and John Lewis department stores rose by 25.7 per cent and 13.5 per cent respectively year on year for the week ending April 15.

Trading at Waitrose was up 8 per cent on Easter week last year and 18 per cent on the week before. Easter items sold well, with most branches reporting yearly increases.

Across the department stores overall sales were up 13.5 per cent compared with Easter week last year. Electricals and home technology sales were up 36.9 per cent and menswear, leisure and beauty also enjoyed rises into double figures. The week started strongly and continued well, but Easter Saturday - although up on last year - was slightly disappointing.
