Like-for-likes up 16.8 per cent
John Lewis has recorded its highest weekly sales increases so far this year. Like-for-likes at the department store chain were up 16.8 per cent for the week ending May 6.

Warmer weather boosted sales in seasonal products and the retailer's garden party range performed particularly well.

Sales were up across all categories. Electricals and home technology continued to outperform other departments, with like-for-likes up 37.3 per cent. Womenswear sales rose by 13.2 per cent.

The group said: 'The change in pace last week continues to gives us cause for further optimism as we move into our second trading quarter.'

At supermarket chain Waitrose, warm weather drove comparable sales increases of 9.8 per cent. Salads, meats and the French Wine Showcase were strong performers.
