Department store group John Lewis is to open a Home store in Tamworth in the autumn.

John Lewis said it will invest £7m into the 42,000 sq ft store, which will sell furniture, furnishing accessories, electricals and home technology.

The John Lewis at Home shop will open on the Ventura Retail Park north of Birmingham. Another John Lewis at Home will open in Newbury next year.

John Lewis managing director Andy Street said the retailer’s customers want “greater convenience and ease of access” to its “inspiring products, great value and exceptional service”.

He added that the Tamworth opening is “testament to our commitment to deliver this to shoppers both in the West Midlands and across the UK”.

He said that the Tamworth store will “compliment” the retailer’s full line department store in Solihull and will provide customers with a “broader, more convenient shopping offer”.

Head of format development Tim Harrison said: “Our ‘at home’ shops are integral to our multichannel growth strategy. The Click and Collect service and online ordering points in-store have proven extremely successful in ‘at home’ shops to date.

“We recognise that our customers’ shopping habits are changing and ‘at home’ shops provide our customers with more convenient ways to shop.”

John Lewis will open another full line department store in Birmingham city centre in 2014.

The John Lewis at Home concept launched in Poole in October 2009. A further three were then opened last year in Croydon, Swindon and Tunbridge Wells, with three more expected to open 2011.

John Lewis was represented by property agents Cushman & Wakefield and Ashworths Chartered Surveyors.
