JLP tests online potential with schoolwear lines

John Lewis Partnership is paving the way for an online clothing push with a schoolwear pilot on e-tail business johnlewis.com.

The retailer added 70 of its most popular John Lewis basics lines to the Web site earlier this week. The assortment includes summer gingham dresses, and sports and brownie kits. Entry price points begin at£5 for a twin-pack of short sleeve shirts.

JLP is looking for a bigger slice of the£1 billion schoolwear market and last year tested a limited offer in a handful of Waitrose stores.

In August, a bigger range will be tested in two Food & Home stores for six weeks.
