Whelan accused of breaking agreement
Management at sports giant JJB has 'gone back on its deal with GMB workers', the union has claimed, with the strikes 'probably back on', according to a spokesman.

The agreement between the GMB and the retailer included a no-victimisation clause. However, the union claims Whelan met with one of the Wigan warehouse managers, Steve Rigby, earlier today after which GMB shop steward Chris Riley was fired. The GMB advised against a mass walk-out by workers, but further strike action appears imminent.

The union has accused Whelan of overturning previous agreements reached between JJB and the retailer's chief executive Tom Knight.

Last week, workers at JJB voted to accept a pay offer from the company, calling off further strike action.

JJB has declined to comment.
