Embattled retailer JJB claims it has experienced a dramatic sales uplift in its “new era” stores.

Sales at its flagship store in Manchester’s Trafford Centre have climbed 50 per cent since opening a year ago, the retailer said.

At the other 34 new-look stores, sales have risen at least 20 per cent over the period. There are plans to refurbish 30 more next year.
JJB has been among the worst hit retailers in the downturn, making a£10 million loss in its first half.

The retailer confirmed on Monday that it had been approached by a potential buyer of its fitness clubs division.
