JD Sports Fashion has extended its online offer to overseas markets in an attempt to bolster its international presence.

The retailer now delivers to 40 countries worldwide.

In May it made its first steps to build an international business with the acquisition of French sports retailer Chausport for £7m. Market sources believe the retailer is pursuing further overseas acquisitions to strengthen its presence abroad.

JD Sports Fashion said when it bought Chausport that it provided the “opportunity for future growth by entering a new and sizeable European market” outside its established base in the UK
and Ireland.

The retailer said on its website: “We’ve been bringing the UK the best of the best sports fashion for more than 25 years and we’re now happy to tell you that we’re bringing it to the world.”

In the 26 weeks to August 1 JD Sports Fashion’s group pre-tax profits grew 14.2% to £14.2m
