In the run-up to its expected acquisition by Walmart, South African retailer Massmart has launched a dedicated website for the extended food offer that has recently been piloted at a Game variety store in Cape Town. The site - at Foodco.co.za - describes Foodco as “a supermarket inside Game that makes shopping, and saving, faster and easier”.

Massmart launched its Foodco private-label range in early November this year, initially on a small scale. Should Walmart’s acquisition of a 51% stake in Massmart go ahead as planned next year, Walmart will benefit from the Foodco range making the product mix at the Game variety stores more similar to the offer available at Walmart supercenters.
