Department store group Debenhams is to open in Vietnam as it seeks to bolster its international portfolio.

Debenhams will open in Ho-Chi Minh City in two weeks.

Chief executive Rob Templeman told The Sun: “There’s 16 million people within striking distance of the store. It’s a big opportunity.”

The retailer already has stores in 17 countries outside of the UK, including Iran.

Last month Debenhams acquired Danish department store business Magasin du Nord. Magasin has six stores, including a flagship on Kongens Nytorv is Copenhagen city centre and serves 20m customers a year.
