Carrefour said its new Carrefour Planet hypermarkets weren’t matching the performance of the format’s pilot stores. Compared with the pilots sales at newer Carrefour Planet stores have not been increasing as strongly.

However, group chief commercial officer José Carlos Gonzalez-Hurtado has said the results were still ahead of the September 2010 targets. Since the pilot, Carrefour has been able to halve investment costs on refurbishing hypermarkets to the Planet concept thanks to economies of scale.
