Toy, home and garden retailer Blokker reported group sales steady at e2.7bn (£2.34bn) and up 3% in its domestic market in the year to January 28. Performance was driven by its home formats Xenos, Big Bazar and Cook & Co. Operating profit fell 20.9% to e167m (£144.8m) and net profit declined 19.1% to e128.1m (£111.1m)as Blokker faced difficult market conditions and tough competition. Toy chains Bart Smit and Intertoys were particularly affected by online competition from rivals such as Bol.com. Blokker doubled ecommerce sales during the year to e52m (£45.1m) and plans to invest further to build a “strong online proposition”.
