Discount retailer Big Lots reported that net sales increased 3.8% to $1.52bn (£934m) in the fourth quarter, while net income increased to $110m (£68m) from the $105.4m (£65m) compared with the same period last year.

The retailer reported strong 2010 full-year results. Net sales increased 4.8% to $4.9bn (£3bn) and net income soared 11% to $222.5m (£137m). Like-for-like sales were up 2.5%.
