Bank of England keeps rate at 4.5 per cent
The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee has voted to maintain the Bank's interest rate at 4.5 per cent.

The announcement was in line with general expectations, but has disappointed the British Retail Consortium, which had been pressing for deeper cuts in the lending rates as the consumer spending downturn continues.

The previous change in interest rates was a reduction of 0.25 percentage points to 4.5 per cent on August 4.
