Homebase signs commercial boss

Homebase has recruited former Homestyle group managing director Carolyn Simons as commercial director.

Simons was responsible for Rosebys, Bensons Beds and Harveys at Homestyle, but her role was judged surplus to requirements in February, following the arrival of executive chairman David Brock.

Simons was credited with the repositioning of Harveys, introducing more upmarket branding. However, Brock has since shelved the approach.

Homebase, which posted like-for-like growth of 3 per cent in the four months to June 30, is being repositioned as the 'UK's leading home enhancement retailer'. A key plank of its strategy is to build an authoritative homewares offer.

The retailer tested fledgling range miHome in 10 stores last year, and will roll it out across the chain as range reviews are undertaken. A significant miHome offer will be present in all stores by next Easter.
