Walmart offloads online apparel business ModCloth

Walmart is to sell ModCloth, the online clothing business it bought in 2017, to Go Global Retail.

ModCloth, which also operates through a small number of bricks-and-mortar locations, was originally bought as part of Walmart’s push to bolster its digital operations as it battled back against Amazon.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Go Global said it would focus on extending ModCloth’s online operations. Investment business Go Global has previously worked with brands including Billabong and Guess.

Lidl to open 10 new branches in Manchester

Value grocer Lidl has unveiled plans to open 10 new branches in Greater Manchester, including one in the city centre’s Piccadilly Gardens, over the next three years. The programme will create about 400 new jobs.

The Piccadilly Gardens Manchester flagship will open on October 17.

Lidl already as 30 shops in Greater Manchester.

Nick Harvey, regional head of property at Lidl GB, said: “As customer demand for the Lidl offering continues to grow in Manchester, we’re excited and proud to be in a position to continue opening new stores and creating more employment opportunities across the region.”
