JD Sports chair in line for £6m payment

JD Sports plans to pay executive chair Peter Cowgill £6m as a special bonus to reflect on his ”exceptional performance” in the role over the last year.

The company’s remuneration committee justified the fee because Cowgill hadn’t received any long-term award in the past two financial years, according to the FT.

Cowgill who has run the retailer without a chief executive since 2014, has reportedly also not received a pension payment since 2013.

“The payment is, therefore, being recommended in part to compensate the executive chairman for this and in part to recognise the exceptional performance,” said a member of the remuneration committee.
