US fashion and homewares retailer Anthropologie has said it could have more than 10 stores in the UK as it opened its third shop in Edinburgh this week

Global co-president and chief operating officer Wendy McDevitt said she could see potential for “10 plus” UK Anthropologie stores. Its other stores are located in London, on Regent Street and King’s Road.

“We haven’t signed anything yet, but we are looking really actively here and across Europe. We are very bullish on the UK and Europe,” she said.

The Edinburgh shop trades from 10,000 sq ft over two floors in a site that formerly housed Austin Reed’s Scottish flagship. Alongside Anthropologie’s global range, the store also incorporates some local merchandise including pieces by Scottish artists, jewellery makers and potters.

Anthropologie opened its first store in Pennsylvania in 1992 and now has 135 stores across the United States.
