As Homebase seeks to trial new high street formats, it has opened its first-ever small-format store in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey.

The new store format is made up of three units: a dual-branded “Kitchens by Homebase and Bathstore” showroom; a “Decorate by Homebase” store; and the main store offering home and garden essentials.

The shop stock 2,500 of the most essential products for home and DIY projects such as light bulbs and screws, as well as an “order-and-collect” service for customers to order from Homebase’s full range of 35,000 items to pick up in-store within an hour, or for home delivery.

The kitchen and bathroom showroom includes a specially trained team to help with 3D visualisation of customer’s design ideas, which can, in turn, become completed projects.

Customers will be able to choose from a host of famous brands including House Beautiful and Country Living ranges, alongside appliances from Bosch, Neff and Miele.

The Decorate by Homebase unit includes paint options from brands such as Dulux, Farrow & Ball and Crown, and has a designated area where customers can try different colours next to each other.

They will also be able to map out what their new living room or bedroom might look like with Homebase’s furniture and home accessories.

In the coming months, this unit will be home to workshops and events to help the community learn new skills and complete their projects.

The store opening follows the success of both the Kitchens by Homebase and Bathstore and Decorate formats on other high streets across the UK.

Homebase chief executive Damian McGloughlin said: “We understand the importance of customer experience both in-store and online and we’re really excited to be bringing our inspiration, style and advice to the high street.

“We’re listening to the local community to make sure we can provide them with the products they’re looking for to complete any home or garden improvement project.”
