Homebase is set to reopen a further 50 stores across the UK from today, following the “successful trial” reopening of 20 shops.
The home and DIY specialist said this morning it would be fully reopening the 50 stores “with strict controls in place to ensure shopping is safe for everyone”.
It said its remaining UK stores would “all be reopened for customers to browse and shop” from May 2.
Chief executive Damian McGloughlin said: “It has taken a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment from our teams across all parts of the business, to ensure we are ready to safely welcome customers back through our doors. I’m extremely grateful for the dedication shown by every single team member, and to our customers, for the huge support and understanding.”
While classed as an essential retailer by the government when the lockdown was bought into force in March, Homebase made the initial decision to close all stores on March 25 and focus on its online operations.
Homebase said it has taken the time to “carefully review and make a large number of changes to our operations in preparation for a safe, phased reopening, in line with government guidance on social distancing”.
