Garden store Petersham Nurseries is eyeing a second branch in Covent Garden, but has said other options are “under consideration”.
The Surrey-based plants, antiques and gifts store, whose restaurant once held a Michelin star, hopes to occupy four units in the new Kings Court development in Covent Garden, after reportedly agreeing a deal with the estate’s owners.
Kings Court is due to be completed next year with developer Capital & Counties seeking to attract premium brands and create a new ‘beauty quarter’ that includes retailers such as Jo Malone, Aesop, Miller Harris and Penhaligon’s.
The plant specialist’s second store will be its first central London location.
Its first site, at the foot of Richmond Hill, opened in 2004.
Its café was awarded its first Michelin star in 2011 under former head chef Skye Gyngell and it became a favourite among celebrities attracting the likes of Madonna, Mick Jaggar and Stella McCartney.
A spokeswoman for Petersham Nurseries told Retail Week: “While we can confirm Petersham Nurseries is pursuing a commercial opportunity in Covent Garden, there are currently several options under consideration.”
She added: “The project will become fully operational in late 2017.”
