On July 27, 2020, the UK government launched its ‘tackling obesity’ strategy, which it said at the time would “empower adults and children to live healthier lives”.

Citing NHS data, the government warned that two-thirds of UK adults were living “above a healthy weight”, with half of those clinically obese. The shocking statistics showed that one-third of children were also overweight or obese.
