The Body Shop like-for-like sales edged up 0.5% in its first half driven by trading across South Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

In the six months to June 30, The Body Shop total sales fell 1.3% to €369m (£321m).

Within this, in the second quarter the beauty retailer, which is owned by L’Oréal, recorded a slight 0.8% slip in like-for-like sales, while total sales slumped 3.6% to €187m (£162m).

L’Oréal said western countries were “facing a more difficult environment”.

The Body Shop is continuing to roll out its Pulse stores, which are a revamped fresher, more modern store design.

By the end of the period The Body Shop operated 2,480 stores and 21 websites.
