Westfield has begun to open a 50,000 sq ft area called Health & Wellness at The Village, featuring services such as laser eye surgery and mobility help.

The initiative reflects a move in shopping centres to introduce elements, such as services and leisure, that complement the core retail proposition.

The property owner said the new space “will meet the growing demand for accessible, high-quality health and wellness experiences within a retail environment”, and follows research indicating that 70% of UK adults are open to accessing non-emergency health services in places such as shopping centres.

Laser eye clinic Betterview, which made its debut at Westfield London last year, is to be joined by businesses including Prince Pharmacy which will open a flagship branch as well as Effect Doctors, a specialist clinic.

Other planned occupiers include StretchLAB, which provides personalised one-on-one assisted flexibility and mobility help, and So.Shell, an upscale nail and brow salon.

Westfield London owner Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield’s UK leasing director Constantin Wiesmann said: “The health and wellness sector is experiencing significant growth driven by a demand for convenient and personalised healthcare options.

“At Westfield London, we are dedicated to creating innovative spaces that evolve with the changing needs of our communities and visitors. The introduction of Health and Wellness at The Village is a perfect example of this commitment.”

The businesses are expected to open over the course of this year.
