Boots will push into China “in the coming years” as the retailer’s parent continues to expand globally.

It is not known whether the health and beauty retailer’s first move into the country will be via store openings or through selling its own-brand products through a strategic partner.

The Boots brand is sold in 25 countries worldwide. It operates stores in Norway, The Netherlands, Sweden, Thailand and Gulf countries, while own-brand products are also sold in France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany and the US.

Parent Alliance Boots’ growth strategy was unveiled by the group’s executive chairman Stefano Pessina when he launched the 200th Boots store in Thailand last week.

He said he will drive growth at the group, including the Boots retail arm, through acquisitions and new partnerships. He said he “aims to reach promising agreements in Asia, as well as other emerging areas”.
