New department store planned for cathedral city
Lichfield District Council has selected S Harrison Developments as the preferred developers for the£80 million regeneration of a key site on Birmingham Road. The winning proposal was for a mixed-use development that includes a department store, shops, leisure facilities, a cinema, a hotel, and residential and office accommodation. The scheme will also include moving the bus station and creating 800 parking spaces.

Located on the southern part of the city centre, the Birmingham Road scheme involves redevelopment of an existing multi-storey car park, bus station and police station. The council was keen to link this site with the railway station, while maintaining views of the Cathedral and structure of the city centre.

Lichfield District Council leader David Smith said: 'This is a huge project and one that is key to the regeneration of Lichfield city centre. It is part of our aim to provide first class shopping, cultural and leisure facilities to our two urban centres.'
