H&M signs three stores as growth continues apace

H&M has tied up three more UK store openings, with sites at Bournemouth, Croydon and St Albans, as it surpasses 1,000 stores worldwide.

The Swedish fashion brand has taken a unit at St Martins' Centrale at Croydon, Greater London, taking a 15-year lease on a 19,000 sq ft (1,765 sq m) space on the mall's north end level, close to House of Fraser, Debenhams, Mango, La Senza, Next and TK Maxx.

Andrew Bradley, partner at H&M's agent Hartnell Taylor Cook, said: 'H&M has been keen to secure a second store in (Croydon) for a number of years, but the right opportunity just never presented itself. H&M requires large floor plates in a prime position and those are not readily available.'

At Bournemouth in Dorset, the retailer has secured terms on its second store in the town, building on a successful site at Castlepoint. It has taken a 15-year lease on a 23,130 sq ft (2,150 sq m) three-storey unit at 56/76 Commercial Road, a 50,000 sq ft (4,645 sq m) scheme being undertaken by Helical Retail and Overton.

At St Albans, Hertfordshire, a fit-out is under way on H&M's first store there, at Unit 18, The Maltings, with 15,605 sq ft (1,450 sq m) of space.
