Designer clothes create frenzy
Value clothing retailer H&M created a fashion frenzy yesterday (November 9), as London shoppers battled desperately for items from a range by celebrity-designers Viktor & Rolf.

The collection includes a£220 white silk wedding dress, with only 1,000 made, an£80 trench coat and£10 tights. The fashion line went on sale at 9am, with hundreds of people queuing up hours before the doors opened.

Viktor & Rolf have been catwalk designers for almost 15 years and are more accustomed to dressing celebrities such as Cate Blanchett and Kylie Minogue than your average high street shopper.

One half of the designer duo, Viktor Horsting, said: 'We have been lucky and worked hard to reach the high end of fashion, while H&M is at the other, cheaper end. But we loved the idea of a marriage of opposites, because that is what fashion should be all about.'

H&M has previously brought haute-couture to the high street, with collections by designers Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney.

The Viktor & Rolf range is available from H&M stores in London, Newcastle, Birmingham and Nottingham.

Gap experienced similar scenes earlier in the week, when the clothing retailer struggled to cope with the rush for Rouland Mouret's capsule collection.
