Like-for-likes up 6.5 per cent for the period
Halfords has announced a strong first-half performance, with like-for-like sales up 6.5 per cent.

Total sales rose 9.3 per cent to£369.2 million. Pre-tax profit, before exceptional finance costs of£2.6 million, was up 7.9 per cent to£43.5 million. Current trading is in line with expectations.

The company has been building its store portfolio, and opened its first standalone Bikehut store in Brighton earlier this month, on top of 13 Halfords store openings during the period. The company is also working towards opening three trial stores in the Czech Republic next summer.

Chief executive Ian McLeod said that child seat legislation and strong demand for sat-nav systems helped performance during the period, and was bullish about the outlook. He said: 'Growing sales in all key categories has provided us with further confidence in our trading prospects for the second half.'
