Marks & Spencer has launched a scan-and-go app that allows customers to shop in store without queuing.
The retailer is launching the ‘Mobile, Pay, Go’ app in six stores across London (Edgware Road, Waterside, West Hampstead, Bankside, Canary Wharf and Stratford Westfield) after a successful trial.
The app allows customers to pay for a basket up to £30 at speed. For instance, a lunch of three items takes under 40 seconds.
M&S developed the app in collaboration with The App Business but will now manage and roll it out in-house. It aims to install it into more stores early next year.
Retail, operations and property director Sacha Berendji said: “Digitally enabled stores that offer a seamless customer experience are a crucial part of our transformation and our ambition to be a digital first retailer. Our customers – especially those who come to us for lunch – are so busy, any tech that can speed up the shopping experience is a massive benefit to them.
“Crucially, it also means our brilliant colleagues are freed up to offer great service in other parts of the store, helping to improve the overall experience in the lunchtime rush. We’re moving with pace and we can’t wait to hear what our customers think.”
