Tesco non-food boss Terry Price is to leave the retailer. His departure comes in the wake of poor general merchandise performance that the grovery giant has suffered for some time.

General merchandise director Price leaves Tesco after 18 months in charge of hardlines following his return to the UK from Tesco’s Chinese division, Sky News reported.

He will be replaced by Tesco Direct executive Neela Mukherjee, who will have a newly-combined role in charge of hard and soft lines.

Price leaves at a time when non-food is under the spotlight and at the heart of Tesco’s subdued trading performance. Non-food sales in stores have slipped as shopping has migrated online and Tesco chief executive Philip Clarke has admitted that some of the larger Extra store are too big.

Seperately, Winnie Liu, chief operating officer at Tesco China, is to leave the retailer for personal reasons.
